Khaled Hosseini, 2007

Another devastating sad novel. Again, sad because it depicts events that happened to real people. Like Russian novels are bleak, Middle Eastern novels are heart-breaking. War and devastation. Religion is a cancer on humanity. People should never ever die because of your beliefs. Or theirs. Or anybody's. It should serve people, not serve to torment them. It's so awful, the baseness of humanity.

Also the domestic violence in a patriarchal society that doesn't care about women and girls. Those parts really got to me because of my personal history.

In all, it is not a fun read, but it is exceptionally well written (translated) and hurts one's heart.
