This is Madame Bovary or Anna Karenina all over again. Same sort story again. Young woman marries an older man, cheats on him, dies dramatically. This one died from breathing the night air.

There was an additional, gross, aspect in this novel: the husband had pursued Effi's mother twenty years before. Then he marries his ex's daughter. Im sorry but that is disgusting.

I didn't really enjoy this novel, because it is so much like the others, I felt like I'd read it before. It is very much a novel of its time.
