Zora Neal Hurston, 1939

Date read: 8/8/25

I knew I would enjoy this novel, because I have enjoyed what I've read of Hurston's other work. It's such a shame she wasn't recognized during her lifetime for her immense talent.

As I used to be Baptist, I am very familiar with the Bible, and I've always been drawn to Moses' story. He just wanted to live his life but God intervened and gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.

I loved her characterization of Moses' father in law but I thought Zipporah was neglected. In all though, it is an excellent read, even if you aren't religious.
