Charles Dickens, 1837

Date read: 8/4/25

This is one of the shorter Dickens novels, thankfully, but in content it is very similar to his other work. Victorians were just downright cruel people, and Dickens didn't hesitate to call them out. I dont know if his work had a lot of impact on conditions in work houses and for impoverished people, but I certainly hope it did.

There is "period appropriate anti-Semitism", as AO3 would tag it. Even down to Fagin having a huge nose, because of course. And it is a very sad novel where people die of broken hearts, because of course. Overall, a good read.
