The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

Writer's picture: Kathy MillerKathy Miller

Muriel Spark, 1962

Date Read: 11/25/23

As a former teacher, I am absolutely disgusted with Miss Jean Brodie, primed or not. But of course, having such strong feelings after reading a novel are a great indication of the writing quality, which is superb! Absolutely fabulous, I'll say, as this is a British novel.

Jean Brodie shouldn't be a teacher, and I'm glad
she does lose her teaching position at the end
. I don't want to ruin this for anyone else so I'm not going to say anymore but damn. Some people shouldn't be allowed around kids.

Length: 137 pages in Harper Perennial paperback

Rereadabiliity: as in many great novels, once you know what happens, it isn't as much fun to read the second time.

Classic: YES!
