Charles Dickens, 1854

Date read: 10/2/24

I'm not sure about this one. It allegedly "satirizes social and economic conditions" (per wikipedia) but I thought it was super sad and unfair. At one point the character Old Stephen says it right- the rich and powerful can get divorced but it is considered immoral and impossible for people like him. I'm surprised the Hands (people working in the factories) didn't rise up and kill all the rich people sooner.
