Graham Greene, 1948
Date Read: 4/18/23
This novel was about responsibility. Henry Scobie felt the responsibilities towards his wife, his community, his job, his lover, and God. Unfortunately, he couldn't serve so many masters
so he kills himself.
It's sad, as so many novels have been. I think Greene was questioning religion and also love in relationships. He seems to have felt that love between people was really a sense of responsibility.
Also yet another novel where young children die so that's fun.
Length: 255 pages in penguin paperback
Rereadable: I'm not sure, as the end is all him debating if he will or will not end things.
Classic: beautifully written, humanity at its worse.
