This was reminiscent of Austen or Trollope, in that it is a story of people making mistakes in a society that is too close knit to hold on to grudges forever. However, it is also Dickensian in that it shows how society doesn't care for individual people, and how they can fall into poverty and want from the highest heights.


I really enjoyed most of it. There's a lot of "darkies" and the n-word. I know, I know, that is how they talked then. But I don't like reading it.


I do wish there was like one more chapter though!
