I'm pretty sure I've never read a spy novel before this one. The closest I can think of is The DaVinci Code which honestly, isn't very good.
This novel was very, very good. I am in awe that so much story could be fit into 223 pages. I read the entire book in a few hours. In part because it is so engaging I couldn't put it down.
One thing I really like is he writes like I do: he gives you the information you need and nothing more. I don't like florid flowery overstuffed writing. Just tell the story.
I did not understand everything that happened, and the reasons behind it, because I don't know a whole lot about the Germanies after WWII. I was 13ish when the wall fell.
In all, though, this is a great read that ends very sadly.
Note: the edition I read had a lot of typos ☹️
Length: 223 pages in Bloomsbury hardcover
Rereadability: no, not now I know what happened. It's a spy novel, after all.
Classic: YES
