Jonathan Franzen, 2010

Date read: 12/12/23

For the most part, I enjoyed this novel. I liked how it was written. It varies from traditional third-party omniscient, to third-party but written by a specific character. I thought the author did a fantastic job writing as Patty from her point of view and in her voice.

Like The Way We Live Now, I hated the ending.
I felt that Walter was much better off without Patty and she should just suffer in her lonely misery. Also their reunion was way too contrived.
Patty is spoiled and awful and I hated her.

Overall, this was enjoyable and I read this whole long-ass novel in like three days. Granted, I haven't taken my second exam yet so all I do pretty much is read.

Length: 562 pages

Rereadability: Like so many novels, once you've read it, you know what happens so there's no point in rereading it.

Classic: I don't know. It's very good but is it really a novel that will stand the test of time? Come back in 50 years and ask me.
